Just Finished Her Christmas Bonus Epilogue

November 24, 2014 By Rain Danvers

Her Christmas Bonus - EpilogueHer Christmas Bonus is a sweet romance for the Christmas holiday. I wrote it as a stand-alone short story, never expecting to write a sequel. I had already started on my next book, which is a series, but that little holiday book has been #1 in the free best selling list on Amazon for weeks. And reading the reviews that have been posted, I just had to satisfy the readers who wanted more!

When I started writing this story, I was a little concerned because my first two books had strong men and a twisted villain. My characters tend to do what they want and don’t follow my original plot outlines. I worried that another twisted villain would show up in this lovely holiday book and ruin everything – LOL!

In the epilogue, I wanted to tell the story of what happened after the end of Her Christmas Bonus. As I was writing, all the characters were playing nicely and suddenly a new character jumped in with a wrecking ball. It’s a tight story and because of that, there’s really nothing I can share without revealing too much.

If you enjoyed the original book and wanted more – or – if you think the story unfolded too quickly, you must read the epilogue!

Leah Has Commitment Issues

November 12, 2014 By Rain Danvers

What I’m Working on Now

Book and CoffeeLeah has commitment issues. Maybe it stems from the fact that her parents have an indifferent marriage. They have never argued or talked about divorce; they just exist together in the comfort of their overstuffed TV chairs and the blessedness of the whiskey fumes in their aura. The only family conversation in their home in south Chicago was about the importance of Leah going to college and Leah mixing their next drink.

Without much going on in the home, Leah couldn’t wait to leave for college, even if it was just the local junior college. Not having anything to fall back on, she graduated with a 4.0 average and went on to the state college and maintained her grade point average. And she did it with scholarships and working as a waitress at a boutique luxury hotel downtown.

With her lithe body and the fresh face of a teen, Leah has no trouble attracting dates; she just can’t pick the men who are actually available. She’s had a string of bad men with no chance of finding better quality boyfriends with the job she has. That’s because she’s a bartender earning good money, but working the late shift to earn the best tips. She’s getting the men into the bar, but they’re all deadbeats. Now she’s looking for a way to land a better job with better hours with the piece of paper her parents promised her would be her ticket to success. Unfortunately she’s not having much success in the current job market.

Erik grew up the only son of immigrants from Hungary. His father was a computer engineer who provided him with a structured home life in north Chicago with the expectation that he would follow them into a good college. Erik and his father were continually at odds about his education, forcing him to leave home at eighteen. Working his way up from sweeping and cleaning local bars, he left the bars behind and got into liquor distribution. He’s gotten through his wild and nefarious years of scratching his way to success and is ready to build a new extension of his business.

Christmas Romance Book

October 23, 2014 By Rain Danvers

Her Christmas BonusMy new Christmas romance book, Her Christmas Bonus is being edited now. I should receive the first edit draft tomorrow. Once I receive it, I go through all the edits and feedback to make corrections, revise paragraphs, and write new chapter(s) if that’s what she has recommended. I sent it off last Friday and have been anxiously waiting to see what she send me back.

Once all the revisions have been made, the book goes back to the editor for a final edit. The final revisions should be minimal at this point.

Writing the last chapter was interesting because I had an idea of how I wanted the story to end, but as usual, my characters had other ideas. It’s useless for me to try and edit the book content when the first draft is done because I’m too close to the story. A week is usually a good period of time to let the story settle and then look at it with fresh eyes.

And you never know, the characters may want to make a new ending!

A Little Holiday Book

October 15, 2014 By Rain Danvers

Christmas OrnamentsI’m just finishing up my little holiday book, which is titled Her Christmas Bonus. It takes place in Newport Beach, California and Phoenix, Arizona.

Sage hates the Christmas holiday season, but it’s especially bad this year. She’s spent the last two years working for a man she secretly wants, badly. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be interested in her and being the consummate professional, she hasn’t made her feelings known. She doesn’t know how much longer she can work in this stressful situation, seeing him every day and wanting him.

Terrance also dislikes the Christmas holiday, it negatively impacts his business. Everyone schedules time off during December, leaving him with a skeleton staff. Usually he’s blissfully unaware of the impact because he takes off most of the month enjoying the sun in exotic places. This year he’s stuck working on the expansion plans for his business.

Can two people who hate Christmas find each other? What happened to cause each of them to dislike the holiday so much?

Sage has issues. Terrance wants what he wants. What is their common ground?

Sometimes Characters Define Themselves

October 13, 2014 By Rain Danvers

Author PencilAs I began writing my second book, suddenly Chelsea Colston jumped onto the page. She is Alyssa’s best friend from Net of Deceit and had a supporting role in that book. I hadn’t meant to include her in this book, but there she was and I couldn’t get rid of her. She just took over and defined herself on the first page of That Damn Kiss.

Chelsea is a free spirit raised by parents who have an open marriage in the elite circles of Los Angeles.  Her parents were more involved in their personal lives than guiding their children. Chelsea believes her parents love her, but for her it’s one of those things that children expect rather than knowing what it feels like. Therefore, she really only knows the superficial love that comes with having many relationships and she really doesn’t expect anything more than that.

Chelsea spent most of her childhood at Alyssa’s house with a real family. Whatever she knows about life, friendships, and love comes from Alyssa’s family. Chelsea saw it up close, but that doesn’t mean she really knows it. She’s still just a little emotionally crippled due to her own family. And that’s why Chelsea and Alyssa make such good friends. They balance each other out perfectly.
